چکیده
The objective of this cooperative research project is to quantify Listeria monocytogenes in ready-to-eat (RTE) uncured and cured poultry, pork and beef products that have been pre-sliced by the manufacturer or sliced upon demand in supermarket delis. This data will expand on a previous study sponsored by the Food Products Association (formerly National Food Processors Association; Gombas et al., 2003, J. Food Prot., 66:559) which compared the risk of listeriosis to consumers from RTE products sliced at retail stores versus the risk from products sliced and packaged by the manufacturer. This is an ongoing study in which four states participating in the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network of the Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention Emerging Infections Program have been selected as collection sites: California Bay Area, Georgia, Minnesota and Tennessee. Samples are collected weekly from randomly selected counties and processed within 36 hours of collection. Samples positive for L. monocytogenes are quantitatively assessed using a standard 3tube MPN. Data from this study will be used to estimate actual consumer exposure to L. monocytogenes from the sampled RTE products, and to conduct additional L. monocytogenes risk assessments. The importance of cooperation between industry, academia and the Food Safety and Inspection Services of the US Department of Agriculture in performing this kind of research will also be discussed.

Effect of Guanidino Acetic Acid Consumption and Management Methods on the Reproductive Potential of Elderly Cockerel Broiler Breeders
This study conducted to determine the effect of guanidino acetic acid consumption and management methods on the enhancement of aged rooster's reproduction. A total of 486 broiler breeders (Ross 308) were used in a 3 × 3 factorial experiment from week 41 to 62. Three levels as 0, 1200, and 1600 (mg/kg) of guanidino acetic acid, as a precursor of creatine (CreAmino) in combination with three mana...
متن کاملEnvironmental Enrichment for Broiler Breeders: An Undeveloped Field
Welfare problems, such as hunger, frustration, aggression, and abnormal sexual behavior, are commonly found in broiler breeder production. To prevent or reduce these welfare problems, it has been suggested to provide stimulating enriched environments. We review the effect of the different types of environmental enrichment for broiler breeders, which have been described in the scientific literat...
متن کاملEffect of Using Enzyme Complex on Productivity and Hatchability of Broiler Breeders Fed a Corn-Soybean Meal Diet
A total number of 5520 female and 480 male breeders (Arbor Acres plus) at 42wks of age were used in a 10-week-trial to investigate the effect of an enzyme complex on the quality and quantity of egg production as well as hatchability of broiler breeders fed a corn-soybean meal diet. There were two dietary treatment groups: a control group fed on a corn-soybean based diet, and the multi-enzy...
متن کاملStochastic model of egg production in broiler breeders.
A stochastic model was developed to simulate the egg production of broiler breeders in response to changes in BW. The first step involved the construction of a diagram incorporating dependent and independent variables and their relationships to ovulation rate and egg production from 8 equations based on experimental results. The model was based on existing experimental data, and stochastic proc...
متن کاملOptimum feed composition of broiler breeder diets to maximise progeny performance
Recent research to define a measure of chick quality has evaluated the effects of incubation conditions, breeder age and genotype on progeny growth and survival. Nutritional research has focused on defining the optimum concentration of maternal dietary nutrients for progeny growth, mortality and immune status. There is a research requirement to bring these two areas together to better understan...
متن کاملRegulation of selenoprotein P concentration and expression by different sources of selenium in broiler breeders and their offspring.
An 8-wk experiment using 180 Lingnan Yellow broiler breeders was conducted to investigate the effect of different sources of Se on the concentration and gene expression of selenoprotein P (SEPP1) in broiler breeders and their offspring. After receiving a low-Se basal diet for 8 wk, broiler breeders were randomly allocated to 3 treatments (6 replicates per treatment) and fed corn-soy-based diets...
